Hi,
I have patches in my lawn where the grass seed hasn`t taken and won`t take. The soil is clay.
Would your new build dream lawn seed cure this?
Many thanks.

Do i need to use topsoil before i use this?
Question by: Janice Hart on 1 Apr 2022, 13:13
Hi Janice, thanks for your question. Our lawn seed doesn't need any topsoil in order to grow, but if you suffer from large dips or you think you soil is poor quality, you could choose to use topsoil.

Does the clay soil need preparation or is it ok just to seed directly onto hard clay surface?

Question by: John on 17 May 2022, 14:17
Hi John, thank you for your question!

Before sowing grass seed, we would suggest using a garden fork to spike your soil to loosen the top layer of your soil. We recommend doing this at a depth of 20-25cm and then level out your seedbed.

I have. recently sprayed the garden to kill moss and have now scarified the lawn and removed the mountain of dead moss. How long must I leave it before I sow your seed. I will need clay seed for the front and seed for a shaded area as we are surrounded by trees at the rear of our garden.
Question by: Michael Southin on 26 Apr 2023, 08:38
Hi, thank you for your question.

Usually once the moss has been removed, then you can go ahead and sow the seeds, however I would recommend double checking the usage guidelines on the weedkiller you have applied, just to be sure.

Hi, we are levelling out our slightly sloping lawn whilst having our patio done. we have a clay soil and 2 big, heavy dogs. this sounds like the perfect seed for us. After trying a few other makes for patching and the husbands efforts to bowling green the lawn before we got these 2 monster dogs - what a waste of time that was.... anyway. we have about 80sq.mtr (so 5kg down and 2kg for spare?) and I just know he'll want to know how short he'll be able to cut it and what varieties of seed are in this mix please? Hi, thank you for your question

I have a large tree in the middle of my lawn, and a son who likes to play football. I reseeded (again) with a grass /clover mix and most of the lawn looks great. The bit directly under the tree where most of the football takes place, is struggling. Its clay, and can alternate between dry/ cracked and swampy. Should i try this, or a different seed mix?
Question by: Mel on 26 Jun 2023, 19:14
This mix is perfect for any lawn that suffers from clay soils, and it also has some hardwearing properties. However, if this area is shaded then you might want to consider the Shade Supreme Lawn mix. It is designed to establish in areas with dappled shade - normally caused by trees. Trying to establish new growth around trees can be difficult, as anything trying to grow has to compete with the tree for moisture and nutrients. Make sure to keep the area well watered throughout germination, and try to stay off this part of the lawn until it is fully established.

Thank you for your question
Answer by: Alex Customer Care on 21 Aug 2023, 08:06
If the soil is clay based then the best mix to repair the lawn with is New Build Dream Lawn. It contains the best blend of grass seeds that will tolerate the drainage issues normally associated with clay soils.
Answer by: Alex Customer Care on 21 Aug 2023, 08:12
You state that grass needs 'consistent temperatures above 10 degrees'. As I am about to reseed bare patches in the lawn (made by scarifying and removal of moss), can you tell me if the 10 degrees is daytime maximum, nighttime minimum or an average of these.
Question by: Mike Elliott on 1 Apr 2024, 12:06
Hi Mike,

Thank you for your enquiry. Ideally temperatures should be a minimum of 10 degrees during the day and night as this is required for germination to occur. Grass seed can germinate at slightly lower temps of 8 degrees, but we recommend 10 to avoid disappointment!

I hope this helps, if you have any other questions please do not hesitate to call or email us on help@icanlawn.com
